Four Dogs is Too Much

Our oldest daughter Lisa and husband John have three dogs…..we are the designated dog-sitters whenever they leave town.  Last week it was a trip to Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri.  They brought Nikki, the Gordon Setter, Cody, a supercharged Brittney Spaniel, and Oakely, our granddaughter Jenny’s Westmoreland Terrier over for the weekend.  Plus, they brought their new extra wide pet gate and dog kennels for the big guys.  Thank goodness for the pet gate.  The two big dogs are used to being outside, but we have had thunderstorms every night and neither of them like thunder boomers at all.  We had to bring them in and close them into the family room with the bigger than usual pet gate.
Oakley just trembles when the thunder claps shake the house.  If you’ve ever been in Nebraska during a thunder storm, you’d know why.  We have a leather tufted sofa in the family room and she spent the evening curled up next to me.  I don’t like thunder either, so we trembled together.  Oakley has a new haircut and she hates it….she looks awful.  She had wandered into a patch of cockleburrs while at our river cabin and between the burrs and sand, she had to be whisked off to the groomer.  They SHAVED all her hair off…the burrs were so tangled and matted in her coat that she could not be groomed and shaving was the only alternative.
While in KC, the kids were looking for some antique white bar stools to compliment their newly made wet bar.  They didn’t find any, so are in the process of scouring the internet for them….you know the internet, you can find just about anything.  We enjoy keeping their dogs, but hopefully they will do most of their shopping on the internet  and keep travels to a minimum. Our dog, Fred, puts up with them, but his patience is wearing thin.
