Navy Peacoats and Air Force Bomber Jackets

Do you remember those old bomber jackets that were so popular back in the 1960’s? Well, they morphed into motorcycle jackets. I saw one on Ebay that sold for over $400.00---of course, it was a bit worn since it was actually from WWII and had a painting of Betty Grable on the back. This one had fur around the collar and was lined so was probably the type pilots and airmen wore. I remember a movie with Clark Gable playing an airplane pilot during WWII…he really looked good in that jacket!

The navy had recognizable jackets too….their heavy blue six button coat was known as the “peacoat”. The name peacoat comes from the type of material that the coat was made of. It was called Pilot Cloth which eventually became shortened to “P” jacket and then “Peacoat”. Peacoats are the “in” thing in ladies’ fashion. Tommy Hilfiger has a neat red one that has the six button front….and Roxy has a short version that is very classy. They are hard to find in your neighborhood stores so your best bet is to hunt online.

I live in Nebraska and our winter is just beginning…..snow and below zero temps. I’m not looking forward to shoveling snow again or being stuck in a snowbank trying to get out of our yard. I’ve been haunting the internet for something really warm. My first choice is an Big Sky Walker coat by Tommy Hilfiger….warm with a detachable hood.
